A Clock!
Hmm... it'd be good if there was a clock on the game.. and depending on the time and the season will show the climate. The clock should be faster than usual otherwise we'd never see the special things happening (lightning, snow, nightime, rain)
so what do you think?

Do you mean for real world time or in game time?
In game time seems fixed and weather is not even in the game - I think I've seen a few fixed spots here and there where it rains or snows.

I was hoping you were talking about a real world clock...I'm sick of having to say "brb" just to minimize the window and see what time it is on my taskbar :[
Seasons, daytime and nighttime would be cool, but remember different people are in different timezones and grouping would mess up the flow (maybe have the group time of day appear as that of the group leaders?)

I mean... not a real clock... A made up one... maybe goes faster than real time... and instead of snowing and raining in different spots on the map... give raining in certain places a fixed time.

lol I was just about to say thta... similar to the system in WoW. It'd make the game really atmospheric... which is why WoW is so popular.

not only in WoW, but also FFXI has it and several other RPGs/MMORPGs
I highly enjoy having climate changes and such. Someone mentioned timezones, but I dont think htta would afftect it very much if it had say like 6 hour or 12 hour cycles/days.
I definatly agree with this idea

You could add to this by making the times of day also affect the game mechanics. For instance, when it's cold out, cold damage increases and fire damage decreases and visa versa when it's warm, and lightning damage could increase when it storms. Not sure how well that will go over too well but definitely a good idea by the OP.

I don't think it would work in Guild Wars, or it'd be a lot of work to change all the areas to reflect day/night and weather effects. And if it affected gameplay too much, you'd end up with nobody in some areas during certain times, because everyone would be waiting for when cold damage is more effective (for example).

Day/Night cycles won't work, mainly because the areas of guild wars are already set for different times of day so adding cycles would conflict with that.
Still, I'm wanting an in-game clock that is independant of someones time zone, simply because it would make arranging groups much eaiser if people used it. I've tried using GMT with my previous guild but there were always a few people that didn't quite get the concept. Having an in-game clock, even if it just displays GMT, would make that much eaiser.
But if the clock shows a different time depending on each persons timezone, then it will become useless except for day/night cycles, which I doubt will happen (and if they do happen, I see no problem with having them run seperate to the in-game clock).

alt + enter ftw, stop suggesting a ingame clock. if anything i would see a GMT clock in-game to be useful or have a npc that TELLS you the time not more interface room wasted on junk

conflict, or replace?
The problem is that the entire game would have to go through a development. It would probably be way too much work to make it work. But to the point, I still love the idea and think it would be cool (just maybe not worth it) lol

day and night cycles get old fast. like someone else said in another thread way back. they dont even get noticed after the first few days, then its just annoying (why is it so dark - i hate night, why the heck is it so bright here - i hate the day time) just leave it lol

People would only want to play on certain times, and other crap, not a good idea imo.

To the clock, it's not a bad idea. I don't think tracing by IP would be such a good idea, some people's firewalls etc wouldnt allow it. Just have the option for GMT, GMT +1, GMT -1, etc in the Options Window.

Hmm... I think, still keep some places the same.... it's just places like Old Ascalon, Lions Arch.. and stuff like that that'd be fun for the weather and daytime to change.. I'd also think it'd be really good for the shiverpeaks weather to stay the same.. but it be night time every 6 hours or so.

Having a Guild Wars "Time Zone," definitely.
Can't believe we overlooked a clock feature.
